Box Sized DIE featuring Rockveiler, 2007–2009
Box Sized Die appropriates the form of Tony Smith’s seminal Die sculpture of 1962, turning the refined, minimal, generic shape into performance space for a Death Metal band. In this conceptual synthesis of two tightly-defined genres – sculptural and musical - the six foot cube now becomes home to a performance by a band that is always local to the place in which the cube is sited.
The project is presented by Andrew Renton as a final moment of his curatorial project for last year’s Art TLV, Open Plan Living, and as a gesture of continuity to engage with this year’s projects.
