The Sarona Colony Inauguration   Sarona Gardens, Kaplan Street
The Sarona colony, one of Tel-Aviv-Yafo's hidden gems, was founded in 1871 by Templar settlers from Germany. The colony's founders were devout Christians who believed in rebuilding the Holy Land, bringing with them from Europe – apart from a messianic spirit – sophisticated techniques for developing local agriculture.

Their descendants continued to live in Sarona until World War II when they were deported by the British to Australia due to their German affiliations. After the State of Israel was established, the government set up its offices in Sarona which later became part of the Israel Defense Force's headquarters.

To make way for a wider road and infrastructure works on adjacent Kaplan Street, the Sarona complex has undergone extensive restoration in recent years, including moving some of the original Templar buildings further away from the street. This "facelift" is likely to turn Sarona into one of the most popular hotspots in the city, with restaurants, coffee shops and other entertainment options.

As part of the Centennial Celebrations, the mayors of Tel Aviv – Yafo's sister cities will arrive at the Sarona gardens, as international bands will perform and highlight the warm friendship between Tel Aviv – Yafo and its international friends and partners.
