The logo designed by Gutman incorporated a number of motifs symbolizing both Tel-Aviv and Theodore Herzl, the Jewish state's visionary. The title of his book "Altneuland" (Old-New Land) had been translated by Nahum Sokolow as "Tel-Aviv", taken from a verse in the Book of Ezekiel. Apart from the city's name, the logo also included seven stars, reflecting Herzl's dream of a seven-hour workday – which in fact was instituted at the Tel-Aviv-Yafo Municipality during the city's first decades. Gutman placed a lighthouse in the center of the logo,
symbolizing the city's port which served as a haven for scores of immigrants. At the bottom of the logo, he inscribed the consoling words of the prophet Jeremiah: "I will build you up again, and you will be rebuilt" – articulating the city's envisioned growth.
25 years later, in honor of Tel-Aviv-Yafo's jubilee (1959), a revised version of the logo was designed, bearing the number 50 in its center. On the top there was a drawing of apartment buildings, alluding to the city's monumental development since its founding.
In anticipation of the centennial, a new logo was designed that will accompany the various events, initiatives and programs marking the city's 100th birthday. The logo, designated the "Erupting Center", was designed by Baruch Naeh and pays tribute to the circle, which is the international symbol for a large metropolitan center. The colors that were chosen for the logo convey the special traits of Tel-Aviv-Yafo and its residents: the blue represents the beautiful beach along which the city has been built; the orange symbolizes its residents' boundless personal warmth; the green corresponds to the gardens, parks and open spaces that the city is cultivating; and the red represents the city's unique energies – the spirit of creativity and freedom, liberalism, and pluralism. Both the "Erupting Center" logo as well as Nahum Gutman's historic logo will be used in the different celebrations, and both designs will appear on all the Municipality's publications throughout the centennial year.
